Blizzard's Headquarters in Irvine now has a new statue in its courtyard - a stunning 12-foot Orc riding a wolf mount. The statue was created in New Zealand by Weta Workshop, the same company that made the special effects in the Lord of the Rings movies. While it acts as a decoration of sorts, it also proudly tells the world of ~~the company that WoW made~~ the highly-successful game that Blizzard made: World of Warcraft.

Swedish Youth Care Foundation likens the MMORPG giant World of Warcraft to crack cocaine labeling it as the "most dangerous game in the market". The addictive nature of WoW has caught the attention of the organization whose report is backed by Swedish National Institute of Public Health. "The crack cocaine of the computer gaming world." as the org put it. For me, it is simply "World of Warcrack". xD

This does not come as a surprise to me. The popular MMORPG World of Warcraft topped the Activision-Blizzard's money-makers list for fiscal year 2009 racking up about half of its earnings, financial analyst Arvind Bhatia of Stern Agee said. With 11.5 billion subscribers (December last year), it's no wonder that this gold mine outperformed Call of Duty, Guitar Hero and other titles.

That's not about teaching noobs the basics of the game nor a good alternative to the in-game tutorial. It's a college course proposed by David Friedman, an economics professor at a law school. World of Warcraft 101 (as I would like to call it) looks into the intricate market of WoW, an aspect of the game Friedman knows very well as he himself is a player.

If you're someone who goes nuts over a video game, then you should definitely Make love, not Warcraft. I'm talking about the 147th episode of South Park aired on October 4, 2006 at Comedy Central. A high-level character has gone crazy killing everyone he sees, breaking the rules of the game and threatening to end the World of Warcraft. With Blizzard admins being unable to stop the madman, Cartman and friends take the initiative to confront the griefer once and for all after 2 grueling months of power-leveling.

WoW's 4th Anniversary

World of Warcraft celebrated its 4th anniversary last November 23. Players who logged into the game received a "WoW's 4th Anniversary" achievement and a nice, cuddly Baby Blizzard Bear vanity pet.
